Tackling Hard Things

There was a time I was hesitant to tackle hard things. The fear stemmed from speaking up and knowing others wouldn't agree, not because I was not correct, but more about bringing things to the surface that people are not ready to tackle. Due to me choosing comfort, time after time, when I found the courage to tell it like it is, I was exhausted, burned out, disappointed, frustrated, and plain old, sick and tired, resulting in severed connections/relationships. The lesson I learned, TACKLE HARD THINGS even if it makes others uncomfortable. I must do my part! I CAN and WILL do my part - ALWAYS and in all ways.

As leaders, it is imperative that we show up with courage to confront hard things. When hard things arise, most times they are met with niceness and avoidance which is mostly about comfort. Not for the person who needs to hear the feedback, but more about the discomfort we as leaders feel having crucial conversations.

Author, Brené Brown states in Dare to Lead:

"Daring Leaders are never silent about the hard things."

We must do the self-work/internal assessment of understanding WHO we are. In doing so, we lean into doing what we say we will do. It requires choosing courage over comfort which is Integrity. Leaders must become comfortable with discomfort. That's the message!

Remember, your values is your moral compass, your North Star. We must name our values so that we can transform them into behaviors.

That’s just my 2 cents - keep the change. Better yet, be the change.
